Unit 5. The Nation Breaks Apart.

This unit consists of Chapters 16+17. This is the shortest unit of the book but is extremely important. We use what we learn in unit 4 to analyze why the South split from the Union and how the Civil War spreads along the border states. The ripples of state's rights, slavery, and the divisions of the rich and poor are still being felt today. It helps explain who we are as a Nation not just another war in our history.

Unit 4. The Nation Expands.
